Affordable Stylish Gifts for Tall Men
Here at www.ClothingTallMen.com, we're convinced that tall men can find stylish clothes that fit. So when we saw Esquire Magazine's list of affordable stylish Christmas gifts, we could not resist the challenge of finding all of these stylish items in tall sizes . . .
Stylish Tall Jeans
The stylish gift list started with a pair of selvedge jeans. As denim afficionados will know, selvedge (or selvage) is the real-deal for denim. Woven on traditional looms, it is hard-wearing, has a distinct appearance and is used in exclusive vintage and premium jeans.
To find selvedge denim in a 38 inch inseam we had to go all the way to New Zealand as the the J Crew pair featured in Esquire's list was only available up to 34 inches in length (a disappointment from J Crew, which otherwise has a good selection for tall slim men). Ande Whall is well known in denim circles for producing hand crafted denim made of renowned Japanese selvedge - all for the same kind of price as a top-end pair of mass-produced fashion jeans. Shown below is the Cougar fit. These jeans are sold 'raw' and slowly wear in, but be aware that they shrink by as much as one inch in length.
Update: After writing this post, we were pleased to discover that US denim experts Self Edge offer several premium denim labels that include jeans with an inseam of 35" and longer. These include Iron Heart 301s, Dry Bones x Self Edge, Imperial SEXI14 and Strike Gold.
Classy Tall Tweed Jacket
A versatile addition to any wardrobe, a durable tweed jacket would make a great Christmas purchase. Esquire opted for a classic Brook's Brothers
Donegal tweed sports jacket. That does come in a long size from 42 - 46 inch chest, but with our eye always out for a bargain we couldn't resist recommending the Executive 2-Button Harris Tweed Sportcoat from Jos. A Bank which currently has over 50% off. Made from virgin wool handwoven in Scotland it's a true classic design, updated slightly to a more modern styling. Search for item "14338" after clicking the middle picture above.
Clarks Wallabee Boot
Super comfortable and practical even for outdoors use, the Wallabee has moccasin style in boot form. Available in warm neutral sand suede (picture above) or in brown leather or suede. Shoebuy is one of the few suppliers to offer Clark's Wallabees in sizes up to 15 and in eleven styles, both boots and shoes.

Tall Men's Sweaters in Wool, Cashmere & Cotton
As a tall man, finding sweaters (or "jumpers" for the Brits out there) has always been a challenge. Jeans and shirts can usually be found in a
tall size, but hardly ever sweaters, especially when we're talking about proper high quality knitted sweaters, not fleeces. So, having scoured
my wardrobe and the internet, here are my top picks for tall sweaters.
Before I start, I should say that I'm pretty conservative when it comes to woollens. Most of my sweaters are plain, although I like to be able
to choose from V-neck, crew neck and sweaters with a short zip and collar. Cardigans and vests are not my thing, so sorry, you'll have to find
those yourself! Likewise anything adventurous in the pattern department. For that kind of thing in big and tall sizes, Paul Fredrick should be
your starting point. What I've picked are some safe classics in good quality materials and autumn colors.
Tall Men's Wool Sweaters
Pure wool, especially the extra fne Merino wool, is an obvious first step for jumpers. Warm but thin, they are a safe bet for both casual and
smarter wear. For a variety of colors in V neck and roll neck with tall sizes, Paul Fredrick is the place to look. Cutter & Buck also have
some good quality sweaters including a half zip style and (for something a bit more distinctive) the Glasgow tartan style.
Other sites worth checking out include
Banana Republic which has a good selection of both plain and
patterned sweaters in a good selection of colors - despite names like 'perfumed lilac', 'burnt ginger', and 'purple daisy' (2 pictures in
middle row below). You can also try J. Crew for some good styles
including slimmer fits.

Tall Plaid Shirts - Fall Fashion
These days there is a chill in the air as I leave the house each morning and the leaves are starting to change color on the trees. At work, too, the colors are changing in people's choice of shirts. In this post I look at some warmer colors and styles as the weather cools.
This fall (autumn) muted classic colors like browns and deep, wine-colored reds are proving popular, along with darker greens and even lavender and lilac. Styles are quite traditional and vintage designs are popular, which is perhaps why plaid shirts are being seen a lot. Originally coming from the tartan patterns from parts of Britain, the plaid or check pattern has always been popular but this year especially so.
All very well, you may be thinking, but since when have tall men ever been able to find the lastest fashion in a size that fits? I admit it's a challenge, but take a look at some of the examples below because wherever tall men's clothing exists, we're here to find it. And some of these look pretty good to me (so far, I am relying on some real 'vintage' items from the back of the wardrobe, but I'll be out shopping before long).

Designer Jeans with a 36 inch inseam
In other posts, I've featured fashion and designer labels that produce jeans with a 36" inseam, but more choice is always better, right? For this post, I've tracked down Adriano Goldschmied jeans in an elusive 36 inseam, as well as jeans from two other brands to expand the choice for tall men in search of high quality denim.

Summer Sandals in Extra Large Sizes
One of my stranger experiences last week made me aware of the benefit of specialist sandals. And when my mind turned to sandals, I realised that I was long overdue to sort out some sandals for the summer vacations. Having spent time looking online, I thought I'd share some results.
But back to last week. With some friends, I had my first taste (literally) of river swimming, an activity that takes place on rivers including the Charles River in Boston and in Switzerland on the River Rhine or in the capital, Berne (video). Half exercise, half relaxation, the idea is that you swim or float downstream for a mile or so in a large river with your clothes in an inflatable plastic bag enjoying the unique viewpoint and the open air! It was certainly great fun, although I have two top tips for anyone considering it: (1) keep your mouth closed wherever possible as water in large rivers turns out not to taste that good, and (2) to avoid stubbing your toe on the way in and out, wearing waterproof sandals while you swim is strongly advised.

Charles Tyrwhitt Extra Long Shirt Sale

Famous Jermyn Street quality shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt are available in the sale for only $35. The sale ends on Sunday 15th August, 2010. Charles Tyrwhitt have recently added even more savings to the End of Season SALE so now you can save up to 70% on shirts, suits, ties, shoes and more. Some excellent flat front or single pleat cotton chinos are reduced by 50% in various colors including gray, blue and even lilac. These all come with unfinished inseam, which can be hemmed up to a 38 inch inseam.
I have bought shirts and pants directly from the UK and have always found them to be excellent quality. As a tall slim man, I find European shirt fittings less baggy than the US fittings, which sometimes leave me feeling that I am wearing a tent rather than a shirt. They do ship from the UK you have to wait a little longer for delivery, but you will not be disappointed by the quality.
Outside the US, you can order direct from the UK site, which delivers worldwide.

A Tall Haul - Clothes Shopping for Tall Men in San Francisco (Part II)
Another trip to San Francisco recently gave me the opportunity to revisit the shopping opportunities for tall men, not to mention taking in some excellent dim sum in Chinatown and a bracingingly windy walk around Sutro Park. But this time, in contrast to my last visit to San Francisco in January, I did manage to find some quality options for tall men's clothing.
I started Lucky Brand Jeans, which was an unlucky choice. After dodging between low hanging ceiling ornaments, a helpful sales assistant pointed out that I was wasting my time, as longer jeans are only available online. I later checked and they have up to 36.5 inch inseam but with a fairly limited range of colors and styles. Buckle also stock some Lucky styles with the extra long inseam and when I looked, the Mesa style was on sale.
Eddie Bauer was also a success, with shirts and polo shirts in Large Tall and XLT sizes, but longer pants are only available online (up to 37 inch inseam). There were some nice casual summery styles that would probably suit tall slim men up to around 6'5".

Men's linen clothing - and tall tales from Dubai
I recently returned from a vacation in Dubai, a place that offered guaranteed sunshine, warm seas and experience of a different culture. In this post, where to find summery tall linen clothes will be explained - to get straight to business, click the 'Read more' link below. Meanwhile, more about my holiday . . .
Dubai is a city founded on buying and selling, and faced with blazing sunshine and temperatures that exceed 100'F even in spring, locals (and tourists) escape the heat in vast air-conditioned malls to spend time on the national hobby - shopping! The newest and grandest of these shopping malls lies in the shadows of the world's tallest building, the Burj al Khalifa, a fitting place for a tall man to start his shopping!
With more shopping area per person than any other location in the world it's hard to avoid the shops, but if you need a break from browsing, the malls have a variety of other activities like a ski slope with real snow (Mall of the Emirates), an aquarium and ice rink (Dubai Mall), a recreated Egyptian temple (Wafi Mall) as well as Persian, Moroccan and Chinese architecture (Ibn Battuta Mall) or even a Venetian-themed mall (Mercato) or an underwater mall (Atlantis).
Just like the architectural styles and the tourists, the malls also bring in shops from all around the world, with stores from the US, Europe and Asia all in one place. Only the very top end brands and jewellery are significantly cheaper than you will find at home, but the whole experience is quite something!
It's the not the place to shop if you're a tall man (or woman!) but to get a head-start on summer clothing, I did manage to find some nice linen trousers and shirts. Linen is one of those perfect summer fabrics, as it's cool as well as looking relaxed and stylish (if the Egyptian pharoahs were buried in it, surely it's good enough for us). If you do happen to be looking for tall clothes in Dubai, see the bottom of this article for some ideas.
Below are some ideas for linen clothes a tall man can find closer to home right now.
