Tall Men's Jeans in 37 inseam

For tall men who want the length of their jeans to be 'just so', choosing between a 36 inch inseam and a 38 inch inseam may not be good enough. But for men looking for jeans with a 37 inch inseam, there are a few options if you look hard enough.

Most of these are at the higher end of the price spectrum because this size is usually only available from more fashionable labels. If you want this length but don't want the designer label you can try the cheaper Make Your Own Jeans or Indi Denim that will allow you to design your own custom jeans in your exact size.

Tall Men's Sweaters & Outdoor Coats

As the weather turns and the season changes, sweaters and coats emerge from the darker recesses of the wardrobe and, if you're like me, you may realise it's time for some upgrades. Finding tall men's sweaters and outerwear is not always easy but here are some suggestions.

Tall Men's Outerwear and Sweaters from Eddie Bauer

For all things outdoor and open-air, Eddie Bauer is a good start and their tall items have clear measurements so taller men can check them against their needs. Below are a selection of sweaters and coats from the current collection.

38 Inch Inseam Jeans for Tall Men

For many tall men, the ultimate clothing challenge is finding a decent pair of jeans with a long inseam. Finding tall jeans with a 36 inch or 38 inch inseam becomes a piece of internet detective work.

Always eager to help, Clothing Tall Men has compiled a page dedicated to brands and designers worldwide that offer men's jeans in a 38" inseam (including a 37, 39 or even 40 inch inseam where available). Amazingly, we found around 20 labels in the US that make 38 inseam jeans, including tall designer jeans and tall slim jeans, and at least 10 in Europe. As well as the names, you'll find direct links to some of the best quality labels at the link right here:

But because the selection is always changing, we have also created a separate site where we post our long inseam discoveries, neatly tagged according to inseam, brand, price range and other features. Check out the steadily expanding selection at:

Gigantic Jeans : Long Inseam Jeans for Tall Men

If you're looking for a 36 inch inseam, there's no need to feel left out. Click on the "36 inch jeans" tag under the title at the top of this blog, and you'll quickly pull up all the articles that include 36 inseam jeans. Our Gigantic Jeans site also contains plenty of 36 inch inseam jeans. We'll be featuring more labels as we find them, so keep an eye out for new articles, and also watch for new Twitter posts (see box at right for the latest or click the twitter icon in the right hand column).

Tall Bargain of the Day : Thomas Dean Extra Long Shirts

Sierra Trading Post

I am a frequent browser at Sierra Trading Post, which offers an Aladdin's Cave of greatly reduced items from high quality brands. There is always something in extra long sizes for tall men - the challenge is sorting through to find it! So when I saw some Thomas Dean shirts in tall sizes I thought I'd share the details before they sell out.

Thomas Dean produces a range of high end casual shirts by designers who previously worked for Nordstrom. They cater for larger sizes, which includes tall shirt sizes with an extra 1.5 inches on the sleeve all the way from Large Tall (for chest 42-43 inches) to 4XLT (for chest 59-61 inches). They use high quality cotton and high standards of manufacture with nice details like different colored fabric on the reverse side of the sleeve cuffs. There are usually some more classic styles on offer but I find some of the styles a little loud (in my opinion not so good for tall men).

Stylish, Smart Casual Chinos & Khakis for Tall Men

Prince William shows how a tall man can wear chinos. Photo (C) AFP

Chinos are increasingly an essential part of any man's wardrobe, offering a smart-casual look that works whether you're on the beach, in the office or at the palace. In this article, we find chinos to suit every budget from pauper to prince (yes, we have gone a little royal wedding crazy. Don't worry, it will pass).

But first, what's the difference between chinos and khakis? Unless you're in the army, you'll probably never need to care. Both chino and khaki are terms that originally come from military clothing; chino is a type of twill cloth while khaki refers to a sandy brown color. So confusingly, you can have chino cloth in a khaki color. You'll find smart casual cotton trousers in pale shades called all sorts of things. Here are some that we recommend.

Chinos have now become an established feature in the office environment, originally for a 'dress down Friday' but now they are widely accepted as business clothing, maybe worn with a blue Oxford shirt or another shirt with a collar but no tie. Chinos with a pleat give a slightly smarter look but risk making you look a bit nerdy. Style-wise, chinos are now available in a 'five pocket' style, the same as you see on jeans. These are rather more casual than the normal version with side pockets in the seam.

A relatively new name in men's smart casual clothing is Bonobos. Formed by a couple of business school chums, the company has gone for quality clothing with a few distinctive touches that make their clothes stand out. They have recently expanded their sizes to include a number of styles with a 36 inch inseam and their customer service is excellent.

M Jeans - Exclusively Tall Jeans for Tall Men

Following on from my last post on clothing firms run by tall men for tall men, here are details about a second new entrant to the market.

M Jeans

M Jeans is a new jeans brand that caters to tall men who fall outside the standard sizes supported by commodity brands. This new brand focuses on men above 6'2" with waist sizes 30 to 48 inches. M Jeans combines design and fashion along with the fit and quality of custom tailoring. The niche that M Jeans fills is to provide expertly fitted jeans to those people that are not currently catered to because they are simply too tall.

The Singapore-based brand was inspired by the word of mouth success of the hand-sewn jeans of M Jeans founder, Dutch-American product designer Mr. Mark Seeger. Currently the sole style is a classic straight cut, fabricated from raw select denim, featuring micro-suede pockets, micro-suede inner lining, and a unique 5-pocket design that exudes modest confidence and subtlety. The unique cuts are flattering and understated, suitable for the relaxed business-casual workplace.

Tall jeans and tall shirts from tall firms

Returning to "work" after a quiet few weeks here at www.clothingtallmen.com, I found some interesting items in my post-bag : two clothing firms newly set up to cater to tall men.

Every tall man knows the frustration of struggling to find quality clothes that fit, but few of us would be dedicated enough to create a company to meet that need. Today I am delighted to be able to share information on Longshot Apparel and M Jeans. I have not myself bought anything from either company I hope this post will help to put some 'tall business' their way!

Longshot Apparel

The first firm is Longshot Apparel, which was started in 2009 by Mark Tindall and two others, tired of the fact that the market primarily catered to "big and tall" guys and the tall, well-proportioned man was all but forgotten. Longshot focuses solely on making perfect-fitting woven shirts for tall and fit men who stand from 6' to 6'8". Longshot shirts are ready-to-wear casual shirts that can be dressed up or dressed down - ideal equally for an important business meeting sans tie or for a night out.

The link between height and success revisited

I have just finished reading the book Quirkology by Richard Wiseman. It is a fascinating read, full of curious facts about human psychology gained from serious (though often bizarre) scientific investigations. Quite apart from discovering that people born in summer are 'luckier' (bad news for me) and how to spot a liar, the book supported some of the good news for tall men, and tall people generally.

For instance, studies have shown that taller salesmen (greater than 6 feet / 180cm) earn more than their shorter colleagues, as do women of greater height (taller than 5'10"). There is also a strong tendency for the taller of the candidates to win in US Presidential elections, while in the UK, more popular election candidates were seen by the public as taller.

The best socks you'll ever have

Socks may not be a big consideration in your clothes shopping, but tall men can and should find high quality dress socks. It has always seemed strange to me that a tall man in search of good clothing can easily find a long silk tie, a pure cotton shirt with extra long sleeves and long inseam woollen trousers . . . but when it comes to socks, the large sizes are some ghastly nylon or polyester blend that stretches improbably from size 10 to size 16.

Natural fabrics for socks are the original high-tech fabrics as they deal with moisture (a tactful way of saying sweaty feet) better than artificial fibres as well as feeling more comfortable. I am talking here about cotton or wool - you can find cashmere or silk socks but they always seem a bit decadent and excessive to me. So not only will you look and feel better, your feet will be more comfortable.
