Finding a new option for clothing tall men is always a plus. Even more so when it is a business run by tall people for tall people. Enter Plus 2 Clothing.

Plus 2 Clothing is an Australian clothing label that began in 2013 by Josh & Steve, two tall, slim guys who were fed up with how hard it was to find clothing that fit. In their native Australia, it felt that there was a real lack of “fashionable” clothing aimed at taller, slimmer built men under 40.

As Steve tells, it "with this in mind we set about to design our first tall tee. Of course, it took a fair few attempts before we were 100% happy. We paid particular attention to making it a heavyweight pre-shrunk cotton so that it was not only breathable material but also wouldn’t shrink in the wash - if you're a tall bloke there isn’t much worse than your t-shirts shrinking in the wash. We also knew our target market would be mainly people with an athletic/sporty build, so we wanted to make sure that the stitching would hold up when playing sport or working out. We have since created a range of tall hoodies, jackets and are now focusing on tall button-ups and even pants which we hope to launch in the coming months".

Plus 2 Clothing asked taller professional athletes and even Australia’s tallest man, Kewal Shiels, to test the new tall tees and they report positive feedback, generally from taller guys that usually struggled or had given up finding fashionable longer length clothing. Despite the serious mission, they've managed to combine some serious tall sportswear with a little bit of subversive fun in the form of a discrete giraffe logo.

The core of the Plus 2 Range is Tall Tees and Hoodies. A Large T shirt is 34.8 inches long, which is significantly longer than many standard "tall" sizes, and the Large size Hoodie is 35.8 inches. Standard price for the T shirt of $25 Australian dollars ($18 US dollars when I checked) and $80 - $100 for a hoodie is not cheap but these are solid, heavyweight cotton pieces that should last you a long time . . . possibly more cost effective than buying a couple of cheap or badly fitting T shirts that you have to replace within months! There are also typically some reductions for buying multiple items that bring the cost down. Unless you're down in Australia, you'll also need to check shipping costs carefully, which are noted on checkout.

Tall Sales to stock up on extra long eseentials

Fed up with buying presents for others? Flush with Christmas gift cash? Keen to spruce up your tall wardrobe in time for the new season?

Here's a selection of the best end-of-year / Christmas sales and clearances that have something for tall people.

Finding extra long jeans is a basic life skill for us tall people. After hearing the refrain "we only stock extra long inseams online" one time too many in regular stores, I now head straight online first. Most online retailers now make returning and refunding items simple, so there's no reason not to try something out to see how it fits. I like Buckle's own "BKE" range for trendy but affordable denim but they also have a number of other fashion labels with long inseams (mostly 36 inch but some 37 and 38 inch inseams).

Staying on the theme of jeans, Western stores seem to be a reliable source of long inseam jeans. I'm not sure that cowboys were particularly tall but perhaps its something about all that jiggling up and down on horses that requires a long inseam - if anyone who understands horse-riding better than me would care to tell me, I'd be happy to learn! Western stores tend to be heavy on Wranglers which are your basic bread-and-butter jeans. But Sheplers has a wide range of brands with inseam up to an impressive 40 inches and waist suitable for tall slim and more athletic builds.

This is one of my favorite stores because you never quite know what you're going to find. Sierra Trading Post sells outdoor and work wear but also heavily reduced end of line items from high end names. Alongside carpenter's pants you may find cashmere socks or an expensive branded suit. Definitely a go-to if you are looking for tall coats and outdoor gear but also well worth a browse through the tall section. Although prices are generally reduced, New Year markdowns give an extra reason to visit!

For the slimmer tall person like me, Destination XL may not offer much, especially for pants and jeans. But if you are more in the "Big and Tall" category (waist 36 inches and above) then you'll find plenty at Destination XL and Rochester Big & Tall (both owned by the same company). For sizes XL and above, Destination XL is also a reliable source of Polo Ralph Lauren polo shirts and other items. Right now, there is a clearance with up to 75% off many items.

At first glance, you might think Paul Fredrick is the place for your dad to shop. Or your grandad. Or some 1970s Wall Street throwback. But stick with me. Paul Fredrick has quite a wide selection of big and tall sizes (not for the very slim but pretty good for most). This is one place you can get wool and cashmere sweaters with Tall sizes and they have a wide selection of good quality dress shirts. Maybe not for your everyday shopping but at clearance or sale time its well worth a browse to pick a couple of "luxury" items.

Pendleton's Native American Inspired Shirts - also in tall!

I first came across Pendleton because of their blankets inspired by Native American designs. More recently, I've been seeing Native American-inspired triangular patterns on more and more clothing and Pendleton is a company that has been weaving wool in the US for over 100 years.

The men's designs range from more traditional checked shirts to some clearly Native American themed jackets and shirts. They do have a tall range, which offers extra length in the sleeve and body although it looks like this may only suit men up to around 6'4".

Tall Shopping in the UK - 2Tall & Others

Every now and then I get news of a new range of tall clothes or a new store opening. Sadly, some of these do not survive for very long. One that caught my attention recently was 2tall,a UK web store for tall guys. I very much hope this store will stay around.

Right now, their range is not huge but covers the necessities and includes some items I have not seen before in the UK. With trouser inseam from 38 inches upwards and T-shirts with options for men of 6'8" and above, this is clearly not just another "Big & Tall" store. They have T shirts in tall and extra tall, casual shirts from Life & Limb, jeans in 38 inch and 40 inch inseam from Mustang and Mish Mash, a small selection of chinos and a good choice of shoes.

Extra Tall Range at Lacoste

Shopping in an outlet mall recently, I saw a sign on the Lacoste outlet window that caught my eye - "See our Big & Tall selection". I didn't have high expectations as I've almost given up looking for tall clothes in standard shops but I had to give it a try.



Afterwards, I checked online and sure enough, Lacoste does have a men's tall section (yes, actually tall, not just Big & Tall, which is impressive). Before you get too excited, what they mainly have is some very expensive T-shirts. Still, this is all good quality stuff and there are some tall sweaters, shirts and pants.

Tall Bargain of the Day : Thomas Dean Extra Long Shirts

I am a frequent browser at Sierra Trading Post, which offers an Aladdin's Cave of greatly reduced items from high quality brands. There is always something in extra long sizes for tall men - the challenge is sorting through to find it! So when I saw some Thomas Dean shirts in tall sizes I thought I'd share the details before they sell out.

Thomas Dean produces a range of high end casual shirts by designers who previously worked for Nordstrom. They cater for larger sizes, which includes tall shirt sizes with an extra 1.5 inches on the sleeve all the way from Large Tall (for chest 42-43 inches) to 4XLT (for chest 59-61 inches). They use high quality cotton and high standards of manufacture with nice details like different colored fabric on the reverse side of the sleeve cuffs. There are usually some more classic styles on offer but I find some of the styles a little loud (in my opinion not so good for tall men).

Tall jeans and tall shirts from tall firms

Returning to "work" after a quiet few weeks here at www.clothingtallmen.com, I found some interesting items in my post-bag : two clothing firms newly set up to cater to tall men.

Every tall man knows the frustration of struggling to find quality clothes that fit, but few of us would be dedicated enough to create a company to meet that need. Today I am delighted to be able to share information on Longshot Apparel and M Jeans. I have not myself bought anything from either company I hope this post will help to put some 'tall business' their way!

Longshot Apparel

The first firm is Longshot Apparel, which was started in 2009 by Mark Tindall and two others, tired of the fact that the market primarily catered to "big and tall" guys and the tall, well-proportioned man was all but forgotten. Longshot focuses solely on making perfect-fitting woven shirts for tall and fit men who stand from 6' to 6'8". Longshot shirts are ready-to-wear casual shirts that can be dressed up or dressed down - ideal equally for an important business meeting sans tie or for a night out.

Tall Plaid Shirts - Fall Fashion

These days there is a chill in the air as I leave the house each morning and the leaves are starting to change color on the trees. At work, too, the colors are changing in people's choice of shirts. In this post I look at some warmer colors and styles as the weather cools.

This fall (autumn) muted classic colors like browns and deep, wine-colored reds are proving popular, along with darker greens and even lavender and lilac. Styles are quite traditional and vintage designs are popular, which is perhaps why plaid shirts are being seen a lot. Originally coming from the tartan patterns from parts of Britain, the plaid or check pattern has always been popular but this year especially so.

All very well, you may be thinking, but since when have tall men ever been able to find the lastest fashion in a size that fits? I admit it's a challenge, but take a look at some of the examples below because wherever tall men's clothing exists, we're here to find it. And some of these look pretty good to me (so far, I am relying on some real 'vintage' items from the back of the wardrobe, but I'll be out shopping before long).

Charles Tyrwhitt Extra Long Shirt Sale

Famous Jermyn Street quality shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt are available in the sale for only $35. The sale ends on Sunday 15th August, 2010. Charles Tyrwhitt have recently added even more savings to the End of Season SALE so now you can save up to 70% on shirts, suits, ties, shoes and more. Some excellent flat front or single pleat cotton chinos are reduced by 50% in various colors including gray, blue and even lilac. These all come with unfinished inseam, which can be hemmed up to a 38 inch inseam.

I have bought shirts and pants directly from the UK and have always found them to be excellent quality. As a tall slim man, I find European shirt fittings less baggy than the US fittings, which sometimes leave me feeling that I am wearing a tent rather than a shirt. They do ship from the UK you have to wait a little longer for delivery, but you will not be disappointed by the quality.

A Tall Haul - Clothes Shopping for Tall Men in San Francisco (Part II)

Another trip to San Francisco recently gave me the opportunity to revisit the shopping opportunities for tall men, not to mention taking in some excellent dim sum in Chinatown and a bracingingly windy walk around Sutro Park. But this time, in contrast to my last visit to San Francisco in January, I did manage to find some quality options for tall men's clothing.

I started Lucky Brand Jeans, which was an unlucky choice. After dodging between low hanging ceiling ornaments, a helpful sales assistant pointed out that I was wasting my time, as longer jeans are only available online. I later checked and they have up to 36.5 inch inseam but with a fairly limited range of colors and styles. Buckle also stock some Lucky styles with the extra long inseam and when I looked, the Mesa style was on sale.

Eddie Bauer was also a success, with shirts and polo shirts in Large Tall and XLT sizes, but longer pants are only available online (up to 37 inch inseam). There were some nice casual summery styles that would probably suit tall slim men up to around 6'5".

Men's linen clothing - and tall tales from Dubai

I recently returned from a vacation in Dubai, a place that offered guaranteed sunshine, warm seas and experience of a different culture. Dubai is a city founded on buying and selling, and faced with blazing sunshine and temperatures that exceed 100'F even in spring, locals (and tourists) escape the heat in vast air-conditioned malls to spend time on the national hobby - shopping! The newest and grandest of these shopping malls lies in the shadows of the world's tallest building, the Burj al Khalifa, a fitting place for a tall man to start his shopping!

With more shopping area per person than any other location in the world it's hard to avoid the shops, but if you need a break from browsing, the malls have a variety of other activities like a ski slope with real snow (Mall of the Emirates), an aquarium and ice rink (Dubai Mall), a recreated Egyptian temple (Wafi Mall) as well as Persian, Moroccan and Chinese architecture (Ibn Battuta Mall) or even a Venetian-themed mall (Mercato) or an underwater mall (Atlantis).

Just like the architectural styles and the tourists, the malls also bring in shops from all around the world, with stores from the US, Europe and Asia all in one place. Only the very top end brands and jewellery are significantly cheaper than you will find at home, but the whole experience is quite something!

It's the not the place to shop if you're a tall man (or woman!) but to get a head-start on summer clothing, I did manage to find some nice linen trousers and shirts. Linen is one of those perfect summer fabrics, as it's cool as well as looking relaxed and stylish (if the Egyptian pharoahs were buried in it, surely it's good enough for us). Tall Polo Shirts for Spring

In a spirit of optimism, I've been on the hunt for polo shirts, hoping the weather will soon be warm enough for me to wear them. In this post, I've highlighted four brands that feature tall sizes as well as good quality.

I've always worn polo shirts more than normal T shirts - the collar looks smart and breaks up my height a little. Styles with horizontal stripes also work well to make tall men look less tall and thin. Personally, I like the texture and airiness of the pique cotton polo, but for a dressier look you can try smoother, glossier mercerised cotton. In many offices, polo shirts even pass as smart casual in the quiet summer months, making life that little bit simpler in the morning!

If you're after function rather than fashion, Zappos.com offer Cutter & Buck polo shirts in tall sizes that includes DryTec moisture wicking fabric (65% cotton, 35% polyester) in case you're doing something more energetic than strolling around the office. There are more styles on the Cutter & Buck web site but I recommend Zappos.com because delivery is free, while both charge around $60 for the shirt. I also have a slight gripe that the tall sizes cost around $20 more than the normal . . . for just a little bit more length??

Luxury Twill slim fit shirts for tall men

As spring finally seems to be in the air, I thought it was time recently to spruce up my wardrobe and revitalise my shirt selection. Having previously extolled the benefits of Charles Tyrwhitt for excellent shirts with long sleeves, I thought it was only fair to try out something else this time.

After having a look at the selection in various British shirtmakers (I make no apologies for being biased - I find the cut of British shirts better for a tall, slim man, as well as the slightlier dressier collar and cuffs), I was pleasantly surprised to make the discovery of the TM Lewin Luxury range

The Luxury range (its not actually a range as such, you just need to look for the shirts that have Luxury in the description, and written on the label) uses extra fine long staple cotton, which gives the shirt a unique and slightly heavier, glossier texture. While the normal TM Lewin 100 fabric is fine for a casual or standard work shirt, the luxury fabric adds an extra touch of quality. The great thing is that they do not cost any extra!

If you're tall and of average or slim build, I strongly recommend the Slim Fit, which has plenty of room, but avoids what I often get with 'normal' shirts, which is extra fabric sticking out at the back above where I tuck in the shirt. You can get extra long sleeve sizes online, up to 38" in most neck sizes.

Although the list prices for these shirts are high, they can usually be found on special offer at discounts of at least 50%. Delivery cost is reasonable for the US and also UK, and TM Lewin offer free returns for these countries.
