Remember this cotton/linen outfit from last month?
Well, if you watch my vlog -- and if not, why not? -- you know that I had planned to start my gray cotton jumpsuit this week. But I fear that the result may be too similar in mood (no pun intended) to my matching jacket and pants ensemble above. So I'm shelving it for at least a month.

What I am going to sew -- and which I started today in fact -- is a blue cotton suit made with the fine herringbone fabric I purchased in May. I could really use a lightweight, dark suit; it will get a lot of wear. A cotton jumpsuit, in contrast....let's just say I'm not sure.
The fabric looks light here but it's actually navy.
I'm using Simplicity 8368, the same pattern I used to make my groovy vintage sheet suit last year.
The only change I'm making to the pattern is to shorten the length 1/2". I now only alter my patterns with pins, never tape. That way I can easily change the alteration if I need to.
If you're not too distracted by the fuzz, you can see the herringbone pattern in the fabric. This was a stitching sample.
My pattern pieces are all cut and I've started sewing. Since the jacket will only be half-lined, I'm using some vintage bias tape to finish the exposed seam allowances. I know the stripes are green and white, but I thought it would look kind of preppy though I'm on the fence about it at the moment. In the worst case, I can serge it off in morning, resulting in flatter seams that are less likely to show through the front of the fabric.
The jacket will have patch pockets, so it should come together relatively quickly. We'll see...

I don't know about the weather where you live, but we are being flooded at the moment -- a true deluge. My July 4th plans have actually been postponed to the 5th, fireworks or no fireworks.
